Conjuctions


There are a few different kinds of conjuctions in English; however, I am focusing on coordinate conjunctions in this English lesson. Conjunctions are connecting words. They bind two parts of a sentence, into a single phrase within the sentence. Below is a list of the more common coordinate conjunctions used in English.

Menggabungkan dan mensejajarkan
  • And (dan) :
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables
  • As wel as (dan juga) :
Sinta went to the market for some vegetables as well as Reza
  • Besides (selain itu / disamping):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables beside fruit
  • Both … and … ( Kedua … dan …):
Both Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables
  • Moreover (bahkan):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables moreover they bought fruits
  • Likewise (seperti halnya):
Reza went to the market for some vegetables, likewise Sinta
  • Furthermore (lebih lagi, ditambah lagi):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables furthermore some fruits

Menggabungkan dengan menunjukkan pertentangan
  • But (tetapi):
Reza went to the market for some vegetables but Sinta didn’t it
  • Not only … but also (tidak hanya … tetapi juga):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some not only vegetables but also fruits
  • Despite of (meskipun):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables despite of Reza didn’t like it
  • However (namun begitu):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, however, they also bought rice
  • In spite of the fact that (walaupun kenyataan menunjukkan bahwa):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, In spite of the fact that their mother didn’t believe it
  • Though (meskipun):
Though Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, they only take a walk
  • Although (walaupun):
Although Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, they still bought a lot of spinach
  • Even though (walaupun):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, even though, it’s far away
  • Nevertheless (walau begitu):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, nevertheless, they only bought 1kg of potatoes

Menggabungkan dengan menunjukkan adanya makna pilihan
  • Or (atau):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables or fruits
  • Either … or …(baik … maupun …):
Either Sinta or Reza went to the market for some vegetables
  • Or else (atau bahkan …,apa lagi …):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables or else some fruits
  • Otherwise(jika tidak):
Sinta and Reza went to the market for some vegetables, otherwise, some fruits
  • Neither … nor …(baik…ataupun…tidak …):
Neither Sinta nor Reza went to the market for some vegetables
